I live in Houston, TX and I happen to love it. However, there are times when I'd like to slap someone for being stupid. Everyday I have to change the lobby TV from Fox to MSNBC or CNN just to piss off one of the senior VPs.
Well at lunch today I had to watch/listen to Fox News because two SVPs were in there eating lunch. They were talking about Rashid Khalidi and Sen. Obama's ties to him and they showed a clip of McCain discussing Sen. Obama interrupting the World Series. I'd had enough, I loudly told the person I was sitting next to, "Well, McCain forced the NFL to reschedule a game and funny how Fox just omits McCain's money connection to the PLO member that Obama 'knows'. And The World Series is starting on time as scheduled."
I got glares from the SVPs, but not a word. I will not sit there and listen to such false distortions and outright stupidity from the Right.
I am tired of the whining on the Right. The Republicans have enjoyed a superior money advantage in almost every election cycle and now are SCREAMING about how the Democrats are trying to buy the election. Whatever.
I am tired of Joe Scarborough whining about media bias when I've sat through years of having two Republicans on talk shows to one Democrat. The Republicans are reaping what they've been sowing. If he can't stand having the table turn then he needs to go home to Florida and suck it!
I've been active in politics since I was 18 and that was in 1990. I've watched the Republicans storm Austin and Washington with lies, distortion, and outright hatred. It is with glee I watch them try to do the same thing and find the ground isn't as fertile as it once was.
For John McCain to say that ACORN was the greatest threat to Democracy the nation every faced is so stupid as to be pathetic. Really John, the burning of Philadelphia before we were a nation wasn't a great threat? The Civil War wasn't a great threat? The Great Depression and unemployment the likes of which we've never seen before wasn't a greater threat? Nazi Germany? the Soviet Union? Can we get a grip and learn some history? (To me much of this financial crisis could have been avoided if we'd bothered to remember the lessons of the Great Depression.)
No, the greatest threat is a bunch of community organizers. Pathetic.
It is no wonder that Fox News holds such a special place in so many people's lives. It tells them what to think without having to dig deeper. It is a pathetic attempt at being PRAVDA in an age when answers are likely at our fingertips.
I think I feel for the likes of George Will and David Brooks; to have to endure a Party that is rapidly devolving into the Party of Know Nothings and want to Know Nothing. But in that attitude the seeds for unending failure are planted.
If nothing else I feel a little sorry for people who watch Fox News; to be so limited of mind and understanding of the world around them. it is a shock to be called on their limited knowledge. It's fun to see them bluster for an answer outside of, "But that is the liberal media!"
I always counter with the late great Daniel Patrick Moynihan, "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own fact."
