I want to march on Washington. I want to rally millions of my fellow Americans in the streets outside of the Capitol, outside of the White House and the Supreme Court. Once and for all we must be heard, for neglect has run rampant in DC and it will surely lead to our demise. Follow me below the fold.
I was watching C-Span this morning, BookTV to be precise and a woman (who's name now escapes me) was summarizing a book she just wrote called "Lockout." The book is about immigration practices in the U.S. over the past century or so. As the author spoke about the weaknesses in our immigration policy, she said something that jumped out and hit me in the face. To paraphrase, she said "One-hundred years ago, the U.S. was just beginning to become a global power, now there's no where to go but down. We've neglected to invest in our nation and we do so at our own peril." That word -- neglect -- really resonated with me. I immediately thought of George Lakoff's book, Moral Politics in which he characterizes conservatives as Strict Fathers and liberals as Nurturant Parents. After 9/11 when fear took over our conciousness, we as Americans looked for protection and unfortunately that protection came to us in the form of the Bush Administration and their rough and tough posturing. We followed this administration so blindly that by the time we realized they were really up to no good... there were already bombs over Bagdhad.
Well America has woken up. Of course, most of you reading this were well aware of the smoke and mirrors long ago, but for the general public, this is a new discovery. In the coming months before the election, it is our responsibility to brand the Republican party as what it truly is -- not strict fathers, but neglectful, deadbeat dads.
The Republicans have neglected to make our nation safer.
The Republicans have neglected to capture Osama Bin Laden.
The Republicans neglected to protect the gulf coast.
The Republicans neglected to balance the nation's checkbook.
The Republicans neglected to debate a strategy for Iraq.
The Republicans neglected to to improve our schools.
The Republicans neglected to provide health care for all.
And while Congress receives another automatic pay raise,
The Republicans have neglected to raise American wages.
If the Republicans maintain control of congress, they will continue to neglect our nations needs. Have you had enough?
Vote Democrat
