Poll-makers don’t know that election winners are those that receive the most votes, and, not incidentally, that those votes are tallied and certified? Must be shoddy thinking, poor writing or that there really is some gap in their reality. Let’s save that for the post-mortem.
Here is the exact quote from the Gallup poll:
As in any election, the final outcome, in large part, hinges on who turns out to vote and who does not.
Hello? The outcome of this election does not hinge "in large part" on those who vote and those who don’t. It is the only measure.
After making myself crazy trying to decipher statistical jargon and separate it from the inevitable spin, I find that there is more than just hope: a solid majority of Americans really do want Barack to be our next President.
If all registered voters participated, Obama would probably win comfortably. He leads McCain by 50% to 42% in the latest estimate of registered voter preferences, and has averaged a nine percentage point lead since Oct. 1.
The only thing that makes a difference is removing any chance that Obama voters will not cast ballots. Bottom line: Get on the phones.
