Tonight, on "Maaaan, she crazy":
--Michele Bachmann dismisses global warming as "voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax."
--How three thousand Bachmann fans gathered at a conservative talk radio event in Minneapolis yesterday to support her candidacy.
--Are you seeing gas prices falling in your district? According to Michele, that's happening because of Michele.
More after the break, but first, let's listen:
"We’re in a state of crisis where our nation is literally ripping apart at the seams right now, and lawlessness is occurring from one ocean to the other. And we’re seeing the fulfillment of the Book of Judges here in our own time, where every man doing that which is right in his own eyes—in other words, anarchy." – Minnesota State Senator Michele Bachmann, appearing as guest on radio program "Prophetic Views Behind The News", hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 6, 2004.
She told the "Prophetic Views in the News" audience that, back in 2004. This politician never met a panic she didn't like; that's the basis of her base. (continued)
Michele has never been a fan of this whole global warming "fad" that's sweeping the world's scientific community.
The big thing we are working on now is the global warming hoax. It's all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax.--Rep. Michele Bachmann, March 18, 2008
And of course there's this:
"[Nancy Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she's just trying to save the planet," Bachmann told the right-wing news site OneNewsNow. "We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet -- we didn't need Nancy Pelosi to do that."

Yesterday Bachmann appeared at a conservative talk radio event in Minneapolis featuring Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved and some other numbnut. Bachmann can be seen herebegging for volunteers. The event drew some three thousand conservative talk radio fans (contrast with the recent Obama event that drew 9,000 in the mud and rain.)
She appeared with other Republican candidates (including Senator Norm Coleman) to promote the GOP cause. And as we know, Michele has been warning Americans of horrifying consequences should they chose Barack Obama over John McCain. But as late as March of 2008 she did not want McCain for president:
Bachmann pointed out the race between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination gave an advantage to Republican candidate John McCain.
"(McCain) is not my man," she said. "Our candidate was chosen by the media."
McCain was not her man, back then (too liberal.) But now she's backing him, most of the way.
Hereshe is on video, courtesy of local television (WCCO), taking personal credit for the fact that gas prices are falling all over the country.
Convict Tom DeLay on Hardball, telling Tweety that he wouldn't go as far as Bachmann in calling Obama an "anti-American"--but Tom says he had Obama pegged as a "Marxist" months ago.
The Minnesota Independent web page on how Bachmann has done 23 major television appearances as a conservative spokesperson since September--but never held a single public meeting in our district since her election to Congress. (Theory: couldn't do public meetings here; she would have gotten too many questions about our district's home foreclosure rate, which is the highest in Minnesota.)
In the two biggest papers in Minnesota, the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Minneapolis Star Tribune: I got nothing. Nothing going on here, you want news about a crazy congresscritter, go to the blogs; hey, how 'bout those Vikings, aren't they something?
The Star Tribune seems content to lie doggo on Bachmann since they endorsed Dem opponent Tinklenberg on the 27th:
Bachmann has little to show for her two years in office -- three minor bills, one of which recognized the state's 150th birthday. The incident earlier this month when she went on MSNBC's "Hardball" and accused Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama of possibly harboring "anti-America" beliefs and calling for the media to investigate her colleagues to see who was "pro-America or anti-America" just adds to the list of bizarre incidents and statements that undercut her credibility as a political leader.
Bachmann is a culture warrior for the far-right; clearly, that's been her priority. This north-suburban district is hard hit by foreclosures and the economic downturn. It deserves a U.S. House representative who's practical, focused and results-oriented: Elwyn Tinklenberg.
Here the most basic basics about who's running against her in this very Republican district, courtesy of the St. Cloud Times.
The poll numbers from the district, via Pollster. Sorry, latest results are as of October 23 (showing Bachmann ahead of her Dem rival Elwyn Tinklenberg by one point.)
It was gay panic mongering in Minnesota that lifted Michele Bachmann from State House obscurity to Congress. So one more "gay panic mongering" classic before we go:
On what will happen if her same-sex marriage ban amendment fails to pass in 2004: "It isn’t that some gay will get some rights. It’s that everyone else in our state will lose rights. For instance, parents will lose the right to protect and direct the upbringing of their children. Because our K-12 public school system, of which ninety per cent of all youth are in the public school system, they will be required to learn that homosexuality is normal, equal and perhaps you should try it. And that will occur immediately, that all schools will begin teaching homosexuality." -- State Senator Michele Bachmann, appearing as guest on radio program "Prophetic Views Behind The News", hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 6, 2004.
UPDATE: From MPR Polinaut
Bachmann spends big.

With less than a week to go before Election day, GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann is flooding the airwaves with her ads. A look at KSTP, KARE and WCCO today (I looked at Fox last week as well) shows that Bachmann has dropped $1.4 million in TV ads at those stations...
...I'm told that both campaigns are still trying to buy more space in the remaining days but there's not too much real estate left.
Interesting tidbit: Bachmann bought time on The Chris Matthews show that runs on Sunday morning. In other words, she's buying ad time on the show that put her in the political pickle in the first place.
