I'd like to show a wide selection of political ads to my rhetoric and writing classes on Election day, and I need your help--y'all know a lot more about these things than I do. I'm looking for both the epic and the epic fail, and from both parties, since my students are a diverse lot.
What do you think are the most famous and infamous of past and present campaign ads? LBJ's "Daisy" ad is a classic, as is Jesse Helms' "white hands" ad. But surely there are more like these, right? And then there's Liddy Dole's "Promises" ad, which is where I got this idea from.
My first-year students are turning in a paper on election day that will be a letter to the new president-elect about an issue of importance to them. I would like to reward them for their hard work by showing them the best and the worst of American political ads so that we can discuss the visual and verbal rhetoric.
Please provide a link if you can--and thanks for all suggestions!
