This letter was in my local paper - I'm glad that someone has said this out loud. Three cheers for Powell and this letter writer.
Powell shows more courage than Obama
Hats off to Colin Powell for his recent remarks about whether Barack Obama is a Muslim.
Said he: "The right answer to that question is not yes or no, but what if he is?" In short, what's wrong with being a Muslim in America, a country that claims to believe in religious freedom and, constitutionally at least, requires no religious test for those aspiring to political office.

Powell shows more courage than Obama
...
Obama cannot bring himself to say that. Instead, he denied the allegation, espoused Christianity, and even allowed an evangelical Christian pastor to schmooze him into delivering a "what Jesus Christ means to me" homily on national television. Powell's remark bespeaks courage and leadership. Obama's bespeaks fear and pandering to the Christian right.
We have no official religion in this country? Why does Obama continue to behave as if we do? I'll still vote for him. But I'll be wishing I was casting my vote for a leader rather than a bringer-together, for a man of principle who defends a person's right to espouse any religion (or none) rather than a well-behaved schoolboy determined to assure unconvinced voters that his is the "approved" religion.
