The Coldest Winter by David Halberstam ... About the Korean war. History writing doesn't get better than this. Halberstam shows us the war at all levels, from Stalin, Kim Jong Il, Truman, and MacArthur down to privates and corporals in the field. Brilliant work
Wizard by John Varley. The second volume in the Gaea trilogy. Masterful. I regard Varley as the most consistently excellent SF writer currently writing.
World without End by Ken Follett. The long awaited sequel to Pillars of the Earth. Looks very good.
