I've written a lot of diaries over the last few years. I've probably said a few stupid things and made a few bad predictions. I write from the heart and from the top of my head and sometimes that gets me in trouble. I'd rather be honest than win a fight, so to speak.
So as I sit here on an early Friday morning having already cast my vote and figuring out exactly what else I can personally do to cross the finish line, I realize I'm just not going to be able to do everything I wish I could. And I like to feel that we're a family here and a lot of you will be sympathetic, so I'm going to beg for a little help. If any of you just have a little money left we can shock the country by electing a Democrat to the House from reddest of the red Indiana. I'm of course talking about Michael Montagano in the 3rd district. And in the course we can rid the House of one of the biggest douches around...Mark Souder.
Like I said, I'm not pretending to be a great blogger or a great diarist. It's cool if you ignore a lot of what I write. This place gives me more than I could ever ask for just by letting me read. Good left wing progressive news that never stops. Whenever I'm trying to fight back against good old Southern Indiana boys I can always get good ammo here.
I like to think I've been a good Democrat. I've volunteered where I could, gave where I could. I'm a relatively poor man. I've worked the same job for almost 10 years and am lucky to get a 2% raise every year. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
So this morning I sent Michael's campaign $20. Had to wait until now to even have the money to give. Thank God for payday and if I ever get a sitdown I'll ask "George W Bush. Seriously, WTF?".
That just won't be enough though. You just don't win a district that Bush carried by 18 points with twenty bucks. I wish I could make it up to help in person but if I did that I wouldn't be giving that $20 and what else little I've gave to a few other races. Have my own district (the 9th) to work on and not take for granted. If I see one Mike Sodrel sign again two years from now, I'll puke
So I need your help, please. ActBlue, baby. Whatever you can afford. If you're in a better position than I am to help him on the ground, take a look.
If you need any reason to work against Mike Souder, how about a this quote?
Source
"He said he didn't think he had grounds to vote "no," but "I'm unhappy that (President) Bush says we all serve the same God. I don't agree with that. We have freedom to worship. We have freedom of expression. But that does not mean every religion is equal and good and right.
"Fundamentally, it's wrong," Souder said of Islam because part of the Quran refers to killing infidels. "I find their religion offensive."
So, basically, everyone is free to be wrong but gosh darn it he needs to make sure everyone knows his faith is right by his vote. Plus a little Islam-o-bashing. Classy!
Now, I'm not saying that Michael is perfect. If you look up his abortion stance, a lot of you aren't going to be happy. I'd love to elect some of our more progressive Indiana folks in the 3rd district someday. Our lives will be so much better when we can. But like I said, this is a Bush +18 district and it can happen NOW. Just look at this poll. And it isn't the only one, as always I'd say Blue Indiana is essential.
And if taking an R+18 district from the bad guys isn't enough to get you to help, then remember that Mark Souder is a loon who said that ending the war in Iraq would be bad for our economy. If you're like me and ending the conflict in Iraq is issue #1 for you, this is a chance for you to help. To directly change the next vote on bringing our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, and friends home.
With a shot of cash and as much help as he can get, Michael can walk into Congress NOW. I hope you can all see why it's imperative to do so. Every voter he turns is probably voting Obama over McCain. We need trickle down support to Barack, but also trickle up with town ticket support. Turn Indiana blue!
I appreciate all your help.
