I am not sure how many people are in my situation, but today I gave my last money donation before the big day. I think I maxed out weeks ago, but I know they give it to the DNC so it all goes to "the cause":
LAST DONATION HERE
At the end of the donation, instead of the usual "invite your friends" it asked for your personal story and I wanted to share it with all of you. Not because it has some deep touching outcome or some meaningful analgous message about society. No, I am sharing because I think that I am like the millions of people who make up the slient majority who have been sitting out for year waiting for this moment to be heard.
I am a senior manager for an international seismic services company. I was hired for a executive level position when I was 34. It was four months after Barack declared his intent to run for the White House.
Being a younger executive has not been without challenge, but I have looked to Barack's campaign for guidance and strength throughout my tenure. His approaches to challenges are my approaches.
Much like our country, my department was in a state of disarray. The budget was in the red. The staff was inadequate for the job, and the function was viewed as unnecessary by the employees.
I started out trying to appeal to the other senior managers for support in my struggling department, but all that happened was I got my teeth kicked in.
Then I heard a message from Barack: "Change doesn't start from the top down, but from the bottom up." Instead of worrying about impressing managers, I started going out and meeting the employees. I hired people who were engaging and focused on a clear message: we are hear to help.
Now, as the Obama camp stands on the threshold of being the next President, I stand in a position for increased responsibility and greater role in the organization. I followed the lessons of Obama - experience is a good thing, but judgment, leadership, and execution are better.
Thank you Barack. I hope that January 2009 finds us both in a greater position and we both have successes
Cheers!
Dave
I am not supporting Obama because of ideology...
(although I believe in many of the same principles)
I am not supporting Obama because of race...
(although I am pragmatic enough to acknowledge that, unfortunately, some voters will only look at this)
I am not supporting Obama because of morality...(although I question his opponents' ethics)
I am not supporting Obama because of national security...(although I do believe his plan is better)
I am supporting him because I followed his philosophy of leadership and discovered that it works!
Let me bottom line this:
RESULTS matter
