I am sure you have heard this quote by now from the pResident's press secretary, Snow.
"The president understands people's impatience -- not impatience but
how a war can wear on a nation," Mr. Snow said on CNN. "He
understands that. If somebody had taken a poll in the Battle of the
Bulge, I dare say people would have said, 'Wow, my goodness, what are
we doing here?' But you cannot conduct a war based on polls."
I wondered, did they take polls during WWII and what happened in polls numbers immediately after The Battle of the Bulge. My research led to me to noted political scientist and pollster, Adam Berinsky of MIT. I asked .....
I asked was Mr. Snows depiction of American opinion during late WWII correct. The truth did not surprise me, but it might surprise Mr. Snow. Berinsky's article can be found here:

What Berinsky concludes is that there no relationship between misfortunes on the battle field and support for the war during WWII; including the events involving the Battle of the Bulge.
The interesting part is what bold faced liars the administration have become. There are millions of things they could lie about that would be very difficult to prove. This is not one of them. Mr. Snow was in an interview with CNN. If I had an interview with CNN I would try to make sure I had my facts right. The analogy Snow made disproved his case, once the facts are known. So the question is, was Snow uninformed, lying, just spouting off, or all three put together?
