As I was watching Brian Williams interview Barack Obama on NBC Nightly News - I was really taken by an exchange where Williams basically asked Obama about how hard it was to forgo normal things, like being with his ailing grandmother, while he's been campaigning.
Barack tried to stay strong during his answer, but he was clearly choked up. Williams pointed out that Barack may never see his grandmother alive again.
On Leno earlier this week, Michelle Obama discussed what his grandmother means to him. From an AP article
"She's doing OK, up and down. But we are just grateful that he took time off and went to see her," Michelle Obama said. She said her husband credited his grandmother, whom he calls "Toot," with teaching him strength.
She quoted him as saying: "'She's tough, she's been through a lot. She's still hanging on. If you wonder where I got my toughness, it's from Toot.'"
As her grandson will hopefully make history on Tuesday - and restore our hope for the future - I would like to propose that we all take a moment on Tuesday to give our thoughts, supports, and prayers to Barack's grandmother. I propose we should all give our best karma-ic thoughts to "Toot" at noon Eastern on Nov 4th.
Given how much she did to help make Barack the visionary leader he has become - we all owe her our gratitude.
