A new Iowa Poll has Obama at his biggest lead yet.
The poll of 814 likely voters, taken Tuesday through Friday by Selzer & Co., came at the close of a key stretch of the fall campaign. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
Gatekeeper David Yepsen talks landside:
If that kind of margin is reflected in what happens on Election Day, it would be the largest presidential margin in Iowa since Richard Nixon beat George McGovern by 17.1 percentage points in the state in 1972.
Iowa has seen more of Barack Hussein Obama than any state other than Illinois. He came to my small town twice and Michelle visited once. Obama is now Iowa's favorite son and I think many "real" Americans will come to feel just as proud about our next president. (Real = pale, bleached, easily sunburned)
One year into the Obama Presidency and today's scare tactics will seem even more wacky and irresponsible and tarnish the Republican brand even more.
Today's poll is great news to welcome Palin to Dubuque for yet another pre-2012 rally in Iowa. Bring it on. Shrink support for Republicans at all levels even further.
I'm looking forward to Tuesday. After taking control of the Iowa Senate, Iowa House and Governor’s office in 2006, Iowa Democrats are about to elect the biggest majority EVER by EITHER PARTY in the Iowa Senate and increase our majority in the Iowa House.
In-state Landslide?
Consider the case of 12-year GOP incumbent state senator Jerry Behn, Senate District 24.
Behn has extreme views but does and says little in the Iowa Senate. He also does and says little in his district.
Regardless of that, he has a nice smile and can avoid sounding like an idiot when you first meet him. Considered unbeatable in a district trending Republican due to the growing suburbs of Des Moines.
Tracking poll a week ago: Behn 35% and Democrat Al Sorenson 39%. 35% is amazing for an Iowa incumbent not invovled in a scandal.
