Welcome to The Coop, a haven for the anxiety ridden Kossacks out there who might feel a tad, well - unappareciated - in other threads.
Been called a handwringing concern trolling chicken little? Unfairly hide-rated for saying "We could still lose this thing, don't get overconfident!" or "I don't like the poll numbers in PA!"? The Coop is the place for you; bring your ruffled feathers and your worries and let's talk.
There's a funny thing about anxiety - our own always seem extremely rational and justified, while the anxiety of someone else frequently seems hysterical, unreasonable, and alarmist. Several years ago, I was a member of a OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) support group. I had obsessions about medical problems. It's different from hypochondria in a number of ways, but has some overlap. Anyway, I would sit there and listen to the others discuss their own obsessions and compulsions.
There was the guy who was obsessed with symmetry. He would go around retying all our shoelaces until they matched perfectly, would bring a screwdriver to make sure that each lightswitch plate screw was exactly perpendicular to the floor. Another man had to open a window to "let out" any "bad" (e.g. negative) words spoken by anyone. One guy was always late because he had to clean up every sidewalk he passed on his way to the meeting. And I'd sit there finding it a bit hard to sympathise because well, geez, these people were worrying about such bizarre things! Unlike me. MY worries were completely justified! Well, there was that time I was sure I had prostate cancer, based on the symptoms only (didn't see the name of the type of cancer at first). The fact that I don't possess a prostate finally reassured me.
But back to Daily Kos and this election. It seems that a large number of people find the expression of doubt and worry demotivating and become angry. Aspersions are cast. Accusations are made! But c'mon - let's look at a few events of recent history....the elections of 2000 and 2004 and the leadup to the Iraq war. We have good reason to be skeptical about the way democracy is functioning here in the US. So....come to the Coop, where the worried are welcome. Tell us about your fears and how you are handling them. What are your plans for Tuesday?
And because I use music therapeutically, let me share this with you; "Deportees", also called "Plane Crash at Los Gatos", based on a true event. Woody Guthrie - a real American hero - wrote this. This version is sung by his son, Arlo. There's another great version done by Bruuuuuuuuce. (This one's for you, Lou Dobbs!)
