Like many of you, I've been receiving Republican robocalls this week. I just received 2 more tonight.
The first one warned me that Obama wants to take my money away and give it to people who don't pay taxes. It was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008. (Call them back at 866-558-5591 and ask them to stop!)
The second one uses a clip of Obama's voice to imply that he's against any new coal fired electric plants.
Only one problem - we're environmentalists living in Brookline, Massachusetts. Why are they calling us?
So much for the myth of the narrowly-targeted Republican 72 hour machine. If you've got no ground game, use the robocalls.
But we are registered Democrats; the public record are clear that we've given lots of times to Obama & friends, and not a dime to any Republicans in the last 4 election cycles (I'm a recovering moderate).
Plus we live in Brookline, Massachusetts! Do they really think we're eager to build more coal fired plants? I bet Brookline would poll 80% in favor of the carbon tax! (the other 20% might insist on abolition) Why are they calling Brookline to remind us that John McCain wants to melt the icecaps?
Scaring the rich makes more sense - Brookline is wealthy, but again they display remarkable ignorance of local politics. Brookline just voted a few months ago in a special election to increase property taxes in order to make our schools even better and more inclusive. I guess that makes us "selfish" as the robocall implied.
Real, patriotic Americans are willing to shoulder some sacrifice for our country - and that doesn't just mean sending our children over to Iraq. I love my kids more than my money, and would be happy to spend a little to leave them a better world.
