Today, "America's Finest Blog" was full of shit. That's the only way to explain it.
Chris Reed is the blogger and he totally blew it, as far as I'm concerned, but if his goal was to frighten those who are close to retirement, he probably hit his mark.
The section of his blog entitled The Psychological Factor Driving Media's Promotion of Obama is the part that's full of shit. Here's what he has to say about Obama (bold-type is his, not mine):
Consider this point: For years, the media have warned about irresponsible tax cuts and about the need to shore up Social Security. So Barack Obama proposes rebating a big chunk of the payroll taxes that tens of millions of workers pay to help fund Social Security benefits – and he gets a pass from the media for this double-barreled assault on their fundamental truths.
Totally misleading. And all of those who have done payroll for as many years as I have will recognize the error of Reed's way. I’ve done payroll for companies for over 15 years and I know that the Social Security tax is separate from the federal tax withholding . Obama has not proposed cuts in Social Security taxes or benefits, but has proposed that all those who make over $250K should pay 2-4% more for Social Security to help fund the program. Look at your paystub. It either lists separate taxes for Social Security or FICA, which is SS and Medicare combined. Tax cuts proposed by Obama would be from Federal Withholding.
Then, Reed rants about how the "journos" have mislead the public in regards to Obama. And this is all IN PRINT in the San Diego Union Tribune today---the Sunday edition. In California, this will probably not affect the electoral victory for Obama, but I think it’s the principle of the thing.
Comments are allowed for his blog ,here and I've already posted a couple for him. I told him that he rants about "journos" who mislead the public, but he should count himself as part of that group.
The Union-Tribune endorsed McCain, so I guess this guys job is safe, but we can tell him when he's wrong. It's still a free country, right?
