This is the Campaign for Change in Washington, working for Obama, Darcy Burner, Governor Gregoire, and all the candidates on the ticket in District 8.
There's a constant low hum here. Phonebankers are sitting in every corner, at every desk making those reminder calls. In another corner, someone is putting together packets for the waves of canvassers coming through. Talk about dedicated people. I spent about an hour out in the suburbs (one person at home, already voted, no one else answering the door on a Sunday afternoon) and it was wet. Very wet. Hence the plastic-wrapped lit. There was also hail. I finished up my first stint of canvassing and decided to spend the remainder of my volunteer time in the dry office, blogging and providing moral support.
Along with the steady stream of walkers and phonebankers, there's the food volunteers. This is one of the smartest things I've seen a campaign do--get volunteers whose primary duty is to provide food so that all the other volunteers, and staff, have to go no further than the office kitchen to find lunch.
So this is what all of your support for Darcy Burner since her first run in 2006, and your phenomenal support this cycle has helped create; a humming campaign machine, ready for the big push of the last two days of this campaign.
This is a group of people that's going to leave everything on the road for 2008.
