I just canvassed for Obama in Saint Paul. It was fun to go to the UAW office, near the Ford plant here in Saint Paul. An incredibly devoted group of Obama folks were training cavassers, there was donated food, lots of campaign literature, and I saw our state representative Michael Paymar and our fabulous congresswoman Betty McCollum.
Then I was paired with a really nice guy (who, it turned out, works with my husband) to go canvass a neighborhood right near my own. It was great -- so many people thanked me for what I was doing. Sure, I had a few folks who were curt or simply ignored me. But most were friendly and grateful. I was able to give them info about their polling place. I really had the sense that I was DOING something instead of simply sitting around and fretting.
So if you haven't gone out to canvass -- contact your local campaign office. (It's easy -- go on the website and put in your zip code). I could only go for a few hours -- so I just told them that when I showed up. They are really happy for whatever help you can give!
