Anyone who volunteered to live blog, please look over this diary

This will be the final Election Day Results Live Blog diary before the big day tomorrow.

This diary is here for two reasons:

  1. To talk about how to set up diaries
  1. For people to ask questions about setting up the diaries.

note - I've noticed another change in the code, so I've updated my code to reflect that.  However, these maps, once again, aren't zooming in yet, and may not until results come in.

I plan on posting a tech help diary with this username at the same time I post my mothership diary with the special election live blog user, and I request that any map help issues get resolved in that tech help diary, not the live blog

Now, before I get into this, a huge, huge, caveat.

When kos did their Scoreboard live test on Saturday, this conversation took place in the comments.

It would be an understatement to say that I was displeased with hearing about this, especially since Tomtech and I had either been led on or even flat out told the opposite.

Luckily soon after that they said that they were "working on it" and that they asked if I could test embedding live results into diaries, etc. sometime today, though I've yet to hear from them.

As a result, I would expect that the maps will be embedded very similarly if not identically to how they are embedded now, but I won't know for absolute sure until they get that functionality working.

In the meantime, I have a code generator here which generates the code as tomtech and I at least understood it to work before.  Statewide races such as President, Senate, and Governor will not zoom in yet

If anything changes, I'll update that code and update this diary so make sure you check back here to see if there is anything new on this front.

If all hell breaks lose and for some reason we can't embed maps, we still have the old standby of using the tables and hand entering results, an example of which I have on my template, but I'm working on the assumption that we will be able to embed maps.

I recommend that everyone pre-create your diaries and save them, and then post them as polls close on election day.  Don't forget to add the tag "Election Day Live Blogging" as well as any appropriate race and candidate tags.

With that, if anyone has any questions, comments, problems, etc. please post them and I'll try to address them.

Also, if you still want to volunteer for any races not on the list, please let me know and I'll add you.

Apparently they're working on it.  You don't see it right off the scoreboard, but something appears to be working:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
