At the beginning of the Obama campaign, after the New Hampshire primary, I saw Mr. Plouffe for the first time on MSNBC. He struck me as a normal, thoughtful, even keeled guy with a balding head and a bad haircut. I know how shallow Americans and especially the American media can be, so I was thinking, "Damn. Obama needs to rein in Plouffe's haircut." Not only that Plouffe, sounds French and somewhat effete. I wondered if there might be a key moment when Plouffe went primetime and engendered some Right Wing ridicule based upon his appearance and demeanor. Then he kind of vanished from the visual scene. I read about his opinions from time to time but did not see him at all.
Until yesterday, that is. Mr. Plouffe made an appearance on Fox news yesterday. When I saw that he was scheduled I felt a moment of panic. What would be the state of Mr. Plouffe's hair? As it turned out, he had quite an aggressive and effective makeover. Very short hair to minimize signs of hair loss, and somewhat military overall: buzzcut.
Every detail is being addressed by the Obama campaign. Mr. Plouffe went on to basically debunk the idea that McCain was in the process of "coming back" and "overcoming" Obama's lead. He was a bit edgy, like a warrior intellectual.
Mr. Plouffe, I am proud of you.
