No, I'm not off my rocker- just sampling the wingnutosphere today. While most of the right is in a glum and sour America-is-going-to-hell-in-a-handbasket mood, there are still a few who are cheerily insisting the old guy and his wacky sidekick will stun us all and take the day tomorrow.
We'll take a tour of such sunny spots after the break, and at the end look at the only way McCain can win.
Bob Krumm:
Nationwide: Going in to election day, Obama will be leading 47% to 44% with 7% undecided. McCain wins the undecided almost 5:2. Increased support from black voters in the three Ds (DC, Detroit, and the Deep South) along with gains in other reliably red states runs up Obama’s popular vote totals, but adds nothing to the electoral bottom line. The only states he turns in his favor are two very white ones (Iowa 2% black and Nevada 6% black), providing evidence against the charge of racism. But facts don’t get in the way of the story line that racism decided the race.
Final popular vote tally: Obama 49.2%, McCain 48.8%, Other 2%.
Electoral votes: Obama 244, McCain 273, Pennsylvania’s 21 TBD.
Wednesday the 5th won’t be pretty.
No, Bob, it won't be pretty (for your ilk.)
Vox Day:
...my five-point rule. In general, if a Democrat leads by less than five points in the polls, he loses...
it looks as if McCain will not only win, but will win by a larger margin in the electoral college than George W. Bush did.
and for good measure, here's the first comment after VD's analysis:
If Obama loses, I think we'll see some race riots. If he wins, I think we'll see some race riots
A charming bunch, aren't they?
By the way, Vox says his view is backed up by "The Baseball Savant" (we'll call him "BS")
Here is where it gets tricky. If you adjust the 5% as Vox suggests then Colorado, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia all move to McCain's side of the ledger... The wild part is that the adjustment doesn't even have to be 5%. It can be 4.4% and McCain still wins them all. I even think the lag isn't over given the recent trends and the adjustment for McCain might have even more room for a smaller margin possibly as low as 3%.
That is tricky! McCain may lose by as little as 3%! Which means McCain wins, based on VD's analysis. And VD's analysis is backed up by BS's analysis, which is based on...well, you know.
There's a reason they call it the "echo chamber".
Oh, and there's this, not from the comments this time, but from BS himself-
It will also be interesting to see how the blacks in the country are going to go ape if Obama loses.
There seems to be an emerging theme here, wouldn't you say?
How about RedState?
The media could be the real mid-wife of the November 4th victory by Senator McCain and Governor Palin...Can you argue with a machine? It spits out every known argument to counter what ever you believe, with great moral certitude and superiority. It is a religious missionary that electronically stalks you...You may think that if it finds out what you think, and how you will vote, the machine may label you with horrible, socially stigmatizing names, and force you to face the wrath of strangers who judge you instantly and harshly and wrongly.
No, it is better to lie to the machine...But Americans are not sheep.
And with that impeccable reasoning about...errr...machines and sheep...well, dadgummit, McCain wins!
And GOPUSA has a plan:
McCain could still win — if everything broke his way...
McCain needs to put it out there and take off the gloves.
Yeah, if only McCain would go negative. Oh wait...
But anyway, they've got the secret weapon of choice:
Sarah is a bright star and is the best thing we have going for the GOP this year. She has the very qualities we need to run this country. She is so much loved the Democrats are smearing her every every day be cause they feel threatened by her.
Well, yeah, I guess when you mention it, I have had nightmares about her.
Speaking of stars, Sarah's are in alignment:
Today, eighty-eight years later, with another opposition between Saturn and Uranus exact on Election Day, also between a later degree of Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces, a woman is fighting for the right to be included in the leadership of this nation...
Whereas, transiting Neptune going direct while on Palin’s Sun - and the Sun is our very essence - reveals Palin to be the true charismatic leader who will help McCain with this election, reclaiming America’s ideals and helping us to regain the true spirit of democracy.
...and as we all know, when Uranus gets in your Pisces, it's gonna be a bad day.
.
.
.
So there you have it. McCain has us exactly where he wants us. And boy will our faces be red.
But let's look at just one more, this from Ezra Levant:
Let me take a break for a moment from talking about Canada's abusive and corrupt human rights commissions.
Nothing worse than folks being abused by human rights commissions.
I think the conventional wisdom has discounted McCain because of the mainstream media's love-in for Obama, because of peer pressure amongst the opinion establishment and because of misleading polls wherein the chief factor is the pollster's own guess as to a "turn-out rate" for each party.
Which is to say, there really is only one way for McCain/Palin to win tomorrow- if we get cocky about all the polls and decide everyone else can vote while we stay home and eat cheetos.
I don't know about you, but I want to see all these idiots embarrassed on Wednesday morning. So vote, dammit, and then after you vote if you can, remind your friends to vote too, harass them til they do, give them a ride, do whatever you can...
and on Wednesday, we can all wake up to the biggest turnout in history, the end of this horrible chapter of our beloved country, and the beginning of the long climb back.
