This will be quick: It's about bandwidth.
(AGH! I have to wait until midnight to post!! I've written three diaries in my life...why was one of them yesterday, fer chrissakes?!)
Rachel Maddow, on her show, just gave advice regarding what to do when someone calls you to "steal your vote." This is a serious situation, and I DO agree with her regarding not listening to them. Whether they are telling you that as a student, you would lose financial assistance by voting on campus, or that the voting date for democrats is November 5. (It's TODAY, November 4.)
But I don't agree that you should say "No," and then hang up.
What to do instead, very simply, below the fold.
Here's what to do: Keep them on the phone. Ask questions. Be incredulous! Be inquisitive! Be talkative! Chat them up.
Keep them on the phone as long as you possibly can!
Because for every minute you keep them occupied, you are taking up more of their precious time, and keeping them from victimizing other voters who might not be aware of these nefarious, vote-stealing tactics.
Be creative! Be daring! Talk like you've never talked before! Collectively, you can take minutes, even hours away from their very limited time remaining. So, remember: Don't listen, but DO take their time, and therefore, their ability to do harm, away from them. Please.
Toot, I pray you're looking over us all. Love and Peace.
