I admit that I jump over to Freeperville, to LGF, to Redstate, and read The Other Guy's take on issues. To inflict further torture on myself, I also will occasionally listen to Rush, turn on Fox News, or (very, very occasionally) listen to Dr. Laura.
Why? Why? Why?
It's below the jump...
It's an old habit from graduate school, when I used to drive 45 miles home late at night after slaving away in the lab. Having already consumed about 2,500 mg of caffeine, I was desperate to find something to keep me awake - anything - and I found wingnut AM talk radio fit the bill. I'd get good and pissed off, wake myself up, holler and yell at the morons for 45 minutes, then go home and sleep like a baby.
The last couple of weeks, I am again semi-compulsively checking the RW sites, looking for cracks and fissures in the base.
And, oh, man, they are there.
I won't bring the Freepers' nasty, rude comments to each other - battling over Sarah Palin, over the "country-club crowd", over just about everything - to DKos. But, trust me (or hit the site if you can get in) - they are there.
The extreme right wing of the Republican Party is experiencing a storm of rage, blame and finger-pointing.
As a result, FreeRepublic, Redstate, and other extreme RW websites are overloading their bandwidth and crashing today. It's a beautiful thing to see. I think that what I'm seeing is the self-destruction of a political coalition that I've hated for 25 years, since the Reagan era.
It's so bad right now at FreeRepublic, they are proposing to limit the access to the site:

Why punish freepers by allowing the noobs to take up our Bandwidth with their unending vanities. (Yes-this is a vanity, 10 years from now you can feel free to post one too) Today is too important to allow FR to go down. Restrict access, restrict posting by noobs who are mostly trolls anyway!

It's an ugly-looking word, with a deep and satisfying meaning for me today.
