Update [2008-11-5 16:47:40 by Glic]: Not that anyone is reading this anymore, but it does now appear that, sadly, Missouri truly has gone for McCain. We needed to hit 60% in St Louis County and we got to 59.5%, which was just a little short.

Update [2008-11-5 7:2:1 by Glic]: McCain 49.4 (1,442,613) to Obama 49.2 (1,436,745), a difference of 5,868.. There are about 4000 outstanding provisional ballots that are yet to be counted. Although mostly favoring Obama, it is doubtful there are enough.
Update [2008-11-5 0:1:50 by Glic]:I'm letting the maps autoupdate and enjoy the night and listen to our President-elect...it's over, this is just gravy if we get it...
The key to Missouri may be St Louis City and County. It appears to be record turnout. Kerry carried the City with 80% (which Obama will certainly top) and the County with 54%. High enough margins in the County(60%+) can win the state. We had record absentee voting and statewide the turnout is predicted to be 76%. Turnout for St Louis County is estimated at 85%+. This bodes well for the good guys.
The Governor's race between Jay Nixon (D) and Kenny Hulshof (R) will most likely be called pretty quickly. Nixon has been up by around 20 points in the polls and should win handily. His margin will likely grow when the ballots for St Louis City & County and the KC Metro come in - which is typically last. And that's the other thing. McCain will likely lead early and into the night as the smaller rural counties always report first. The KC and St Louis metro areas usually come in last.

Update [2008-11-5 7:2:1 by Glic]: I'm glad Koster won and even more glad that Gibbons lost. I didn't support Koster in the primary.Koster was a recent convert to the Democratic party and many saw that as opportunism. However, Mike Gibbons was a horrible choice; he broke his promise to the people who elected him a few years ago regarding concealed carry and it was pretty much accepted at the time that if he went along with the rest of the Republicans they would give him a shot at a higher office. This was his reward so, for that, I'm pleased with the outcome.

Missouri Secretary of State's interactive election results page:
Bogus Robocall Threatens disabled voters if they vote for Obama:
The Missouri office of the National Alliance on Mental Illness report that they’ve been alerted by the Secretary of State’s office that robo-calls "are going out to disabled persons on Medicaid indicated they will have their Medicaid ‘taken away’ if they vote for Obama."
State alliance executive director Cindi Keele reported in an e-mail that her group became aware of the calls when it received a call from an Eldon, Mo. woman. "She was upset by a call she received and called to ask us about it," Keele wrote.
"We reported this to the Secretary of State’s office and asked Eldon area radio stations to help reassure people. I later learned this call is going out statewide...."
The attorney general’s office and the Missouri Ethics Commission also has been alerted, she said.
In a news conference this afternoon, [Republican Director of Elections Joe] Goeke acknowledged long waiting times in certain areas in the county. More people requested paper ballots — and fewer used touchscreens — than officials had predicted, he said. Officials had to send more paper ballots to some places.
On the plus side, he said, there were no allegations of improperly registered voters, as have marred previous elections.
Goeke also addressed reports that voters felt intimidated by the presence of police officers at the polls. He said the board had asked municipalities to have officers on hand to keep the peace when polls closed, but but that some (he named Northwoods) added officers during the day, too.
He said there was no attempt to indimidate voters.
Here is the electoral maps that the "Glic Kids" are filling in. The top is a the electoral map that I drew freehand (sorry Texas for squishing you like that) and then the kids filled in. The bottom is our running total with cutout pics of the candidates. I think that's actually Tina Fey and not Palin, which is somehow apropos.
