It's so nice to see NC Blue again when we aren't involved in sports
My home state is going to come home!! We did it with your help from EVERYONE across the nation.
With 96% of precincts reporting:
Obama 2,071,311 50%
McCain 2,042,805 49%
Barr 24,597 1%
Results here!
The urban areas + early voting + record African American turnout + youth!! + constant visits by the candidates= VICTORY
Obama's strategy to bank those early votes which helped contribute to our record turnout provided the cushion to win. He did remarkably well in the Eastern part of the state which tends to vote Democratic but has large swaths of rural areas that Democrats haven't been able to compete in in ages. I don't see how McCain can close this gap with so few precincts left to report
This diary is for all of those AMAZING people who came down to this state and put in countless hours knocking on doors and calling people and supporting those of us who have worked to return NC back to its progressive tradition.
Your help also got our FIRST female governor in Beverly Purdue, a wonderful new Senator in Kay Hagan to replace Dole, and the election of Larry Kissell as Robin Hayes' successor after losing an agonizingly close race 2 years ago.
SO, to end this happy diary and to borrow a line from an old commercial:
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Update 1
The race has move a bit closer since I published this the first time. I still think that NC is safely on our side.
Here are the current numbers:
Obama: 2,098,401 50%
McCain: 2,084,344 49%
98% precincts reporting.
