This started as a comment to another diary, but it just grew and grew into a diary of its own. You folks ROCK, and I just have to tell you so.
I am so proud and happy for all of you, and am so glad you have worked so hard to elect a president that I can respect. And in return, I will once again do everything I can to elect a government for Canada that you can respect equally.
I can remember a night 16 years ago, watching your election returns come in on a tiny little TV screen, and feeling that hope had come again to the world. I lived through the Reagan years (which morphed into the Mulroney years here in the Great White North), marched against nuclear and environmental destruction, and felt despair until a man named William Clinton stepped on a stage to accept your presidency.
Sadly, that euphoria lasted only a few years. Not again. No how, no way, no failure. President Obama will be a great leader and a great start on a magnificent future for all of us. But the battle is only half fought. We must have his back. We must be at his side pushing forward. Unto that fine, bright day when borders and nations and colours and languages can be set to one side in pursuit of the common interests of humanity.
Best wishes to you all. You have made something magnificent.
