Jim Martin now faces a runoff with Saxby Chambliss on December 2 -- just four weeks away. Runoff elections generally see far less turnout than general elections, and thus are often decided based on the success of GOTV efforts. We have the infrastructure in place to help him win this and flip a Senate seat to blue; here's what I think should be done.
First, we need to identify any financial resources left over for the general that can be converted to this race. (Which I realize involves knowing campaign finance law in detail -- and I don't. But I think it's worth at least considering.)
Second, we need to ask the national Obama campaign to lend support, advisors, and whatever other resources it can.
Third, we need to bring to bear not only the volunteer resources in GA, but in surrounding states. Folks in FL, SC, TN, etc. are close enough to help out.
Fourth, we need -- weary as we are, euphoric as we are -- to bring our collective attention to bear so that we can add one more Senate seat to the list of those that will back...and I'm going to type this for first time...President Obama. I propose we celebrate and rest for two days -- then we take a deep breath and get FIRED UP AND READY TO GO.
