I love the fact that the Orange to Blue program continues for the races that are still open. God knows Franken, Martin and the rest will need every dollar. I also like the good Jed Bartlett spirit of "what’s next", instead of just savoring a victory. And getting all the votes counted in Minnesota, Alaska and WA-08 and winning the run off in Georgia is definitely next.
But so is the open House seat election in LA-04. Because of Hurricane Gustav's effects, the state has ruled that the primary runoff be held on November 4 in place of the general election, with the general election on December 6. Paul Carmouche is the democrat running against republican John Fleming for the seat vacated by Jim McCrery. This is a ripe pick up opportunity for us.
The republicans are depressed and as we know, elections like this are all about GOTV. If the DCCC invests in this, we can really pull it off, like in TX-23 in 2006. Fleming just came out of a nasty primary that he won 56 to 44 percent of the vote. While Carmouche won a much nicer primary, relatively easy.
The district has a PVI of R+7. The same as LA-06 where democrat Don Cazayoux won in April and three points better than in MS-01 where democrat Travis Childers won a special election the same month. We have a history of being able to win red districts when not in a general election. Then it’s all about GOTV and energizing your supporters. Democrats are fired up, and can’t get enough change fast enough. The republicans on the other hand are depressed and apathic.
Paul Carmouche has been the Caddo Parish District Attorney for five terms, and is on the DCCCs Red to Blue program. He has a chance, and the party will likely get involved. But he needs our help. Check out his web site, and donate a dollar or two if you can afford it. Every anchor counts, but giving early has greater effect.
Yes we can!
