Like many people I am pretty pissed at Joe Lieberman, and my gut feeling is that I wish we could make him go away and never be heard from again. But, I'm trying to channel our new president, and find some way to look at the good things Lieberman has done in the past and find some way that I could forgive him for his more recent actions. And I think that I have come up with a solution.
Obama and Reid, together, should go to Senator Lieberman and offer him the following deal:
If you go to Georgia and lend your name and "national security credentials" to the effort to get Jim Martin elected, and do so enthusiastically and wholeheartedly, we'll let bygones be bygones. This would mean that Lieberman would appear in a TV commercial and/or in person campaign event where he would specifically spell out the horrible things that Saxby Chambliss did in the 2002 campaign against Max Cleland. Lieberman would also specifically call out Chambliss for his use of 9/11 imagery in that campaign and in the current runoff campaign.
I don't love Joe Lieberman at this point, but I think if there is any single person who could go down to Georgia and launch those attacks on Chambliss in a way that might actually reach the mostly-conservative electorate of that state, I think it is Senator Lieberman.
I still don't know if this would work to get Martin elected, but I think it is the one strongest chance we have. Also, this would be in Lieberman's interest as well, because Joe will actuallly have a lot more influence if he is needed to be our 60th vote (assuming that the other two races eventually fall our way...) than he would right now only representing the 57th or even 59th vote.
