One veteran's reasons so going green.
After my service in the Navy from 1982 - 89, I was well aware that our next military effort was going to be in the Middle east. You see, I spent most of my time baby sitting the oil coming out of the Persian gulf while the war between Iraq and Iran was waging. So, after 911 when we attacked Afghanistan and then Iraq, I became active in finding alternatives to middle east oil.
I learned how to make biodiesel and I started driving buses full of other veterans who felt the same way I did. Our service was to defend the country and constitution, not protect oil. For the past several years we have used these buses to go to protests and peace conferences and a ditch in Crawford, Texas.
We have also used them for relief work after Hurricane Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike. The veterans have taken our sense of duty to the country and the constitution to heart. After losing friends and being injured or traumatized by war, veterans have two choices; to give up on life and their peace of mind or get to work on living better and improving their environment. We have chosen to get to work by creating sustainable fuels, and rebuilding homes with sustainable energy solutions for disaster victims and other veterans. check out www.veteransgreenjobs.org
If America is worth defending, It is worth rebuilding sustainably.
And if veterans are worth honoring then they are worth our support in finding work that helps us all!
