I know Kossack's are going to see this diary as nothing but an embittered pro-Clinton Diary, but I'm going to post it anyway. I mean look who's writing it? But it's a serious issue.
In a Story the other day Markos wrote:
Democrats are like battered spouses?

I understand the metaphor. I understand what he's trying to say.
But I'm going to state the reasons why I think it is inappropriate. Does Markos hate women? No!!! He's just a part of a media machine that talks about women in a way that's so much more careless about how they talk about women than how they talk about others who have a history of being beaten down by the man.
Now I know this will be contentious. But the best way to make my point is to imagine how Markos's statement would play if it was about an African American or a Homosexual.
I won't put it in words -- to do so would be too divisive, and I'd be troll rated -- but invite people to think about it.
When you look up "battered spouse" on Google, you don't find anything about real women who have been beaten up by their husbands, you find a meta-textual understanding of the issue.
Which is how I believe Markos intended the comment.
But that's a shame because there is real spousal abuse in this world, and while we use the word "Spouse" let's not make any mistakes, we're talking about men beating up on women.
Even if we take Markos's comment at face value, we're talking about depicting Dems as women being beaten up by the men, republicans, or in this case, Joe Lieberman.
I won't post Google searches on articles and pictures the depict real women who have been beaten up by their husbands. That would be too much for people to see as well.
I know this sounds like over-exposed Political Correctness, that's great!!!!. but that's actually part of the problem in and of itself. People who look at people speaking out against sexism and calling them silly or saying they're whining. (does anyone speaking out against racism ever get accused of whining?) Yes. That is part of the problem. Sexism will never go away as long as there's a group of people out there who can marginalize it as whining or "Political correctness."
Battered spouses aren't a metaphor for political activism.
It's a real issue.
