Evan Bayh is on Maddow right now, making the most ridiculous, "I just might be Harold Ford," outrageous defense of Joe Lieberman that I have yet heard. His opening argument is that if we treat him wrong "Joe might resign." Something about nobody wanting to be walking the halls of Congress all alone without a home. Cry me a river. Oh, and if he resigns, then the Republican Governor of Connecticut will appoint a "true Republican." More...
So argument #1 is Joe might resign.
Argument #2 is "he might be embittered." Though Lieberman might go with us on many things, when we need him most he'd then play the spoiler. God, Bayh is a wimp. Rewarding threats of bitterness is ridiculous. I have a two year old - when he says "I don't like you," I don't appease him.
Finally, the real winner from Bayh... if we keep him and he does something wrong, then we'll be able to punish him! We can always strip him of his Chairmanship, we can always boot him from the caucus, we can control him better as one of us.
Truth be told, I don't really give a damn about Lieberman, but I do wish we would get better Democrats than Bayh. This fool can't even string together a logical argument, or a pragmatic one.
We can't punish him now so we can retain the right to punish him later. I wish my parents had believed in that philosophy.
Thank goodness we're not trying to find a way to celebrate this man as our VP.
Oh, and I did look for an openthread, and even though they may be short, I think this is more than 5 paragraphs.
Irked!
Update... second time through on Maddow, and still irked. Not going to be around for comments though (lively though they may be). Peace.
