The following diary inspired me to realize the following, which is that, by Connecticut senator Chris Dodd current attempting to prevent the severe punishment of Lieberman by the Senate Dem Caucus, Dodd is in effect keeping Lieberman afloat & alive as a viable INDEPENDENT candidate who will likely run AGAINST the future Connecticut DEMOCRATIC candidate for senate in 2012!
In my book, that makes Dodd a disloyal Democrat who is no better than Lieberman, another disloyal Democrat.
I think it is pretty safe to say that if Lieberman loses his Homeland Security chairmanship, Lieberman is pretty much politically dead in Connecticut. On the other hand, if Lieberman can maintain his current HS chairmanship status in the senate Dem caucus, that gives Lieberman some bragging rights that he is still "sort of" a Democrat still accepted by his Dem senate peers, a claim which Lieberman will use to his advantage to try to appeal to CT Dem voters in his likely 2012 reelection run as an independent candidate, running AGAINST the Democratic candidate, whoever that may ultimately be.
Think about the incredible irony here people; Chris Dodd, by virtue of being Connecticut's senior Democratic senator, should be 100% supportive of the best interests & goals of the Connecticut Democratic party and their 2012 Democratic nominee for senate, but instead, we see Dodd (with his defense of Lieberman) actively working AGAINST the best interests & goals of the Connecticut Democratic party, and actively working AGAINST the best interests of the future 2012 Connecticut Democratic senate nominee!
That is despicable and UNACCEPTABLE behavior on Dodd's part, and that now makes Dodd a disloyal Dem in the mold of Lieberman, in my opinion.
So people, that is the new frame for Dodd, that Dodd, by attempting to help Lieberman survive (indeed, thrive) in the Senate Dem caucus now, is being a disloyal Democrat who is working against the best interests & goals of the Connecticut Democratic party and who is working against the best interests of the future 2012 Connecticut Democratic senate nominee, and today, I, a CT constituent of Dodd's, told Dodd's office exactly that!
