As mad as I have been throughout the campaign, and as much cursing and fist-shaking I did aimed at the perpe-Traitor, I believe Joe Lieberman should be allowed to stay in the Democratic Caucus. There, I said it. Now here me out.
First and foremost, this is a highly partisan issue that we need to get passed. Yes, LIEberman deserves to be punished somehow for the horrible things he did and said on the campaign trail against the Democratic party, not just President-Elect Barack Obama. Yes, I am guilty of calling for his head for the BS stunts he pulled. But the fact of the matter is that simply kicking him out will do nothing to get passed the bitter partisanship that has stalled our country's progression -- it will only make things worse.
LIEberman will be welcomed with open arms into the GOP if he is kicked out, and for the rest of his career (as long as that is) he will work against the very issues many of us want to see worked out. He has already attempted (and failed might I add) to do much harm to the party, but he could still do a lot more if pushed the wrong way. I am a strong believer in second chances, and I think it does no harm to give LIEberman one more shot. If he doesn't straighten up and realize his huge mistakes, than feed him to the lions for all I care. But the election is over and all his BS talking still didn't get his guy elected. Hilary Clinton said everything John McCain said (Ayers, Wright, not experienced enough) months before McCain and his campaign ever said any of it, but she was welcomed back fully as soon as the primaries were over and she gave her support to Obama. LIEberman deserves that same chance.
Most importantly, the election is over and now is the time for all these jackasses we choose to run the country to come together and get things done. The last thing we need is for the next Senate to come together -- the only real place left that legislation can be killed -- and have this stupid, childish argument (distraction) going on when there are much more important things to attend to. Every election we fight like cats and dogs, but at the end of the day we are all Americans and need to work together to make things better. We have always had political parties, but have never really experienced this hyper-partisanship (minus the Civil War) that we have seen over the last decade. It's time to close this chapter and show real progress, and giving Senator Joe Lieberman a second chance is a good starting point.
What if it works and we get the Joe Lieberman that votes with the Democratic Party 90% of the time (on almost all domestic issues that are at the top of everyone's list)?
There, I said it. Oh yeah, I should change my name because I am not in Iraq ANYMORE and hopefully NEVER AGAIN (but always here if MY COMMANDER IN CHIEF CALLS FOR ME!)
