STS 126 launched beautifully this evening at 8:55 EST from Kennedy Space Centre. Night launches are always spectacular, and this one was no exception. The countdown was extremely smooth, except somebody forgot to close a door on the White Room.
More after MECO:
This mission is dedicated to improvements to the International Space Station, where Endeavour will arrive Sunday. The gimbals of one of the main solar arrays will be repaired. Improvements will be made to the galley and sleeping quarters, and a recycling system will be installed to turn waste water (sweat and breath condensation as well as urine) into drinking water. All this will make it possible for the ISS to host up to 6 crew at a time.
Best wishes to the crew of Endeavour!
