Alert Action Memo: E-mail phonebankforbluegeorgia@yahoo.com.
Who: You. A concerned progressive who wants to help the Democratic effort in the Georgia runoff on December 2, 2008.
Why: Because you care about your country.
When: NOW. Because there are only 16 days left until the runoff, and we need all hands on deck.
Details and background below the jump.
phonebankforbluegeorgia@yahoo.com is a grassroots initiative that grew out of a desire to help the Democratic effort in the Georgia runoff on December 2. While there is tremendous national interest in the Georgia runoff (which includes Jim Powell's race for PSC as well as Jim Martin's race for Senate, there is the practical problem of how to channel that tremendous national interest enthusiasm and willingness to help into an effective, targeted voter outreach effort here in Georgia in a very short amount of time.
phonebankforbluegeorgia@yahoo.com is an effort to solve that problem. If you want to make calls this afternoon, phonebankforbluegeorgia@yahoo.com is the answer. Many of you have signed up to volunteer on Jim Martin or Jim Powell's campaign websites directly. But with so much to do in so little time, it is possible that there may not be enough time (or staffpower resources) for the campaigns to get the online volunteer forms processed quickly enough to get people working for a blue Georgia.
The dynamics are simple. A runoff election is a GOTV exercise. We know we have the votes to win. We just have to get our voters to the polls.
You don't live in Georgia? This effort is tailor-made for you. Help our Georgia Democrats (Jim and Jim) get across the finish line.
Andre in Atlanta has a great recommended diary regarding Bill Clinton's upcoming visit here to stump for Jim Martin. But it is not our netroots style to sit back and rely on big names to come in to win an election. We are in the trenches here. And we know that there are a lot of reinforcements waiting to get plugged in to this effort. The water's perfect here for us. But let's keep the water blue this election season and not let it run red on the last election of 2008. Dive in.
