For all of you election junkies with nothing to look at:
Found this great entry on a blog that I follow called strange maps.
They overlayed an 1860's cotton production map over a 2008 election map. Please check out the full blog entry I am just leeching off of their creativity.
More maps below the break!
2008 Patchwork Nation Map
Also in case you missed the 2008 Patchwork Nation Map at the Christian Science Monitor. It breaks down the US by county and explores what voters care most about in each of those counties. Much like the Red and Blue maps, there are no shades of grey, but some interesting correlations. Be sure to check out the analysis at the bottom that show where each candidate spent their time during the election.
2008 Election Cartograms
And many of you have already seen these, but I will post them as part of the collection...
Posted by Mark Newman, Department of Physics and Center for the Study of Complex Systems, at the University of Michigan. These maps put into proportion and make relative the 2008 vote geographically.
Check out all of his maps!
This map represents blue and red and the purple in between.
Crickey
For fun here is a map from crickey.com.au, an independent Australian electronic Magazine. Check out the real thing. It's animated at their site.
