I started this as a response to a diary, and it got long enough to make a diary of it. I am conflicted like many of you on the Senate vote today, but let us think about it for a moment.
OK I am as livid as the rest of you over the whole Lieberfiasco. But let us reflect a moment.
Obama was the one attacked, and HE wants to forgive. HE wants to work with McCain, Lieberman, whoever it takes to get done what WE VOTED HIM IN TO DO.
He figures in order to get this country moving again and needed all the help he can get, so he is making moves to get that help and overcome the past.
The Bloggers and saying that this is not the CHANGE we voted for, and from a certain point of view, they are correct. However, this IS a change from nasty partisanship. While kicking Sen. Joe in the nuts would make us FEEL good, and is probably the JUST thing to do, but it is a very BITTER PARTISAN thing to do.
We all got up in arms during the campaign because Obama was playing it cool and not hitting back like we wanted, we were hot against McCain and wanted to hit him back. BUT then when "WE" won, we kinda admitted we were wrong and that his cool, even hand during the campaign was a stroke of genius.
So even though I wanted Lieberman to stay, but lose his big gavel, I am going to give Obama the benefit of the doubt FOR NOW. He proved himself in the well-run campaign. Now I will be keeping an eye on Joe (and definately hope CT gives him the boot in 2012).
I have seen alot of responses about never donating to the Dems again, not working anymore, lining up primary challenges already and other such stuff. Let us wait until we see what happens. Leave the infighting to the Repugnanticans.
Ried et al. has not earned my respect, and I do not make this call for peace because of them.
Obama has played everything pretty darn well so far, however, and if this is how he wants to play it, then I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
