How odd. Here I am, cooking lunch, absolutely FUMING about this Lieberman affair. And the phone rings...
It is clear, as has been pointed out on this and other progressive sites (and maybe conservative ones, too), what this is really about... the permanent prerogatives of the Senate club. This strips naked all the talk, if any takes place, of democracy and the will of the people, in the Democratic Party. As William S Burroughs said, it is the Naked Lunch, you can just see it at the end of your fork.
I live in Colorado, and am "represented" by Sen Ken Salazar, Joe's BFF. He (Ken) has supported the absolutely most vile aspects of Bush policy, supported Roberts and Alito, and yet I have to read comments that we can't challenge him in a primary because that could create a rift in the Democratic Party here and someone much worse could win because we are not really a progressive state blah blah blah.
Maybe that works for you, but not for me. I support progressive candidates. I support moderate candidates. I do not support candidate who spit in my face. To me, giving money to the DSCC, in the days of the netroots, when there are organizations like ActBlue, and all the ways to give money directly to the candidates of my choice, is an anathema. Why bother? Why support the machine when it refuses to act according to my wishes, and the wishes of millions of Americans who gave their heart to this election? If you can correct me, I would love to hear it. But for now, I can't see giving money to support an insulated little racket.
