Well now that it appears that the incompenent Joe Lieberman will retain his gavel of the DHS oversight Comittee in the Senate.
L0ki in another thread posed a good (albiet tough) question:
What do you propose we do?
That's an actual question... what constructive steps can we take now to change this?
I hope I get an answer (I'm not as well versed in procedure and the like... ) I'd like to know what our options are now... b/c I don't see any, in terms of getting Lieberman away from that gavel (admittedly, I'm not up to speed on what can be done - can it be taken away from him at any time? only after elections? do we wait until he fucks up again??) I literally don't know, please someone explain if you do know...
This is something we do need to consider. My spit-ball idea of an answer is below the fold.
I suggest we consider lobbying our Senators to push for language in the organizing resolution which is what locks into place committee assignments, etc. which is put forward in early January for the 111th Congress, that specific language be put into the organizing resolution which makes this particular Committee chair vulnerable to being revoked at will by the leadership without a floor vote.
IN other words, make Lieberman's chairmanship revokable without a vote vulnerable to a filibuster of the GOP and without affecting the rest of the organization and committee assignments, etc.
This allows for the optics and honest chance for Lieberman to redeem himself and actually do the work he is tasked with forthrightly (unlike what he has done in that Committee so far) and it politically keeps him on a very short leash.
Thoughts about this idea?
