Eric Holder is the hot name right now for Attorney-General, which would almost certainly mean that Janet Napolitano will be running in 2010 against John McCain for the Senate in Arizona. Perhaps Napolitano might be considered for another position, such as Interior(Governor of a border state..), but nonetheless, I digress. Here is Eric Holder back in June discussing Bush's tactics in the war on terror. The most interesting part? When he speaks out against warrantless domestic surveillance.
This transcript/summary is provided by Jake Tapper;
"We have quite frankly lost our way," Holder said, calling for the U.S. to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay ("an international embarrassment"); declare that it is the law, policy and practice that the U.S. does not torture people or subject them to cruel or inhumane treatment; end the practice of rendition; and stop any warrantless domestic surveillance.
Stop warrantless domestic surveillance? What a concept! And;
"Our needlessly abusive and unlawful practices in the ‘War on Terror’ have diminished our standing in the world community and made us less, rather than more, safe," Holder said. "For the sake of our safety and security, and because it is the right thing to do, the next president must move immediately to reclaim America’s standing in the world as a nation that cherishes and protects individual freedom and basic human rights."
This whole thing with Marc Rich is a little overblown. Let me be clear; I think Marc Rich was a crook, and the circumstances surrounding his pardon are sketchy. But what the heck did Eric Holder know about any sudden donations from the Rich family preceding Clinton's request for a pardon of Marc Rich? Eric Holder knew only what he was told by his boss, and he served faithfully. He was also an early backer of Barack Obama.
So, how do Kossacks feel about Eric Holder?
