Okay, so I know it has nothing to do with weather (for those into strange etymology, the "wether" part of the word "bellwether" actually comes from a term for a castrated sheep).
In any case, Missouri's streak as the state most accurate in predicting the outcome of a presidential election appears to have ended.
More than two weeks after Election Day, the Associated Press today declared John McCain the winner in Missouri, a hotly contested Republican-leaning state where McCain and President-elect Barack Obama both campaigned hard.
McCain leads Obama by 3,632 votes with all jurisdictions reporting, according to unofficial results, a difference of .12 percentage points out of more than 2.9 million votes cast, the AP reports.
Secretary of State Robin Carnahan still hasn't issued an official statement, but unless someone has a trunk full of forgotten ballots somewhere, there's little reason to think things will change from here.
In comparison, the margin in Florida was down to fewer than 500 votes before the Supreme Court decided democracy was too scary to continue.
