Ok, I'm convinced. This really isn't a good time to put a million autoworkers out of jobs.
But, I'm so fed up with the way they spend their advertising budgets. It's not just that when gas prices at the pump were rolling past $3.oo a gallon headed to $4.00, General Motors was still buying ads for Hummers, at least they've stopped those.
But, today, just now, I was reading on the Huffington Post about the congressional action on the bailout and Ford had a banner ad at the top of the page and another embedded in the body of the report for their 7 passenger "Flex" SUV. Their ad buy for this vehicle has been massive, every TV network, prime time, always mentioning it's 24mpg rating. In truth it only gets 17mpg in the city and if you put six 200lb passengers in it and turn on the air conditioner I'd bet 12 or 13mpg would be more like it. I think the EPA should require them to list worst possible mileage, with full loads and all accessories turned on. Let's make it a condition of the bailout. Truth in advertising NOW!!
