What could Obama have put on the table for Clinton to consider taking the job of Secretary of State? She has a great gig in the Senate already, one where she could likely stay for life and become a female Ted Kennedy. What deal could have been so sweet, that even President Clinton is undergoing 'unprecedented' vetting to allow her to enter into the office.
There has to be more here. There has to be a second stage to this deal.
There has been a lot of talk of SCOTUS.
As a lawyer and now lawmaker, she'd make an excellent Associate Justice. Can you imagine the likes of Alito, Scalia and Roberts having to wake to face Hillary Clinton every day? While I don't totally discount this theory, I still think there is more to it than that. But what could be better?
How about the Vice Presidency?
Joe Biden will be 71 at the close of his first term as VPOTUS. At age 75, his age after a presumed second term for Obama, it is unlikely he'd be making a run for the Oval Office. In 2012, Hillary will be 65 at the end of the first Obama term. If she were to step into the VP role for the second term, she'd be running to be the 45th POTUS at the age of 69. Though no 'spring chicken' by any stretch.
She could be an effective VPOTUS given the right portfolio of issues to work with. She'd be an excellent balance to the party should Palin make a run in 2012. After 2+ years as SOS, she'd have unquestionable foreign relations experience to bolster the gaggle of Senate Committee experience on her resume. Being a sitting Veep never hurts either.
We may just be looking at the groundwork of 'Hillary 2016' campaign being laid, the foundation may just follow.
