OK. For some time I have been mystified as to why we are not driving diesels here. When I go to Europe I drive Ford, GM, VW etc. diesels. Let's start with Ford - the Mondeo TDCi. This car is so good that young sales reps in the UK choose it over a BMW 3 series as their company car. It gets 49mpg(Imperial gallon) and drives beautifully.

So why are Ford not selling it here? Why are BMW not selling the 320d and 520d - both as fast as their gas equivalents?(Yes you buy a 335d now but it is a gas guzzler-no point). Why has an administration with utter contempt for the environment imposed such harsh restrictions on diesel that only one model, the $55k E320 Bluetec from MB, was on sale in 08? Why are the European makers only bringing in the most powerful diesels, with no real gain in mpg?( New Jetta TDI is sole exception). WHY IS DIESEL 50% MORE EXPENSIVE THAN GAS? Do you think that a 30-40% reduction in automobile fuel consumption might be worrisome to any powerful industry? Hmm let me think - GEE - IT'S the OIL Companies!
Call me paranoid but this stinks to high heaven.
