We have seen an uncountable number of diaries of this sort:
Typically the diarists are indignant that Obama picked or considers picking candidate X for cabinet position Y. They are disapointed by the choice, disenchanted by Obama's message of change which they now consider bogus, disengaged from the movement that Obama created and, feeling disempowered to influence the decision one way or another, they declare having stopped donating time and money to the Obama transition.
In other words and more generally, these diarists feel dissed. Are they justified though? With respect, I do not think so.
It's simple for me. I don't care if 100% of Obama's picks are right-wingnut rethuglicans. Don't get me wrong. I hate rethuglicans and I strongly dislike right leaning democrats. But that's not the point.
Obama is the BOSS. He should be allowed to pick those people with whom he can best work to advance his promised progressive agenda. Unlike the VP pick, all these people can be fired if they don't fall in line or if they screw up. Remember that Obama always declared that he wants to be around smart people who will CHALLENGE his ideas. Not yes-men.
Obama's job is not to show appreciation to the team that got him elected by gifting them wonderful cabinet positions. His job is to assemble the most effective team of experienced people that will advance his promised promised agenda. This team may very well be a team of rivals.
So my suggestion to all Kossacks who feel dissed: WAIT. You cannot be disapointed until the Obama administration, which is not yet in office, screws up. If that happens, I will wholeheartedly join you in the bitching and the whining.
Over and out
