I went over to the change.gov site today to make a suggestion to President-Elect Obama. (I suggest you do, too.)
My idea is a small idea, but I think one worth sharing: to reinstate and promote Bunny Greenhouse to a position of authority within the Department of Defense. Her mission: to route out waste and corruption, to find the money we need to do all of the good work an Obama administration has promised.
In case you've forgotten, Bunnatine Greenhouse is
former chief contracting officer (Principal Assistant Responsible for Contracting) of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. On June 27, 2005, she testified to a Democratic Party public committee, alleging specific instances of waste, fraud, and other abuses and irregularities by Halliburton with regard to its operations in Iraq since the Iraq War. She described one of the Halliburton contracts (secret, no-bid contracts awarded to Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR)‹a subsidiary of Halliburton) as "the most blatant and improper contract abuse I have witnessed during the course of my professional
career."
(the above is directly taken from her wiki page)
Two months later, in August 2005 she was demoted, her pay cut and her authority stripped. You can get the whole story from the National Whistleblowers Center.
With news that the Bushies are burrowing into permanent civil service posts, we need great bureaucrats like Bunny more than ever! She and others like her are insurance that this prediction from dday at Hullaballoo won't come true:
In a few years, we'll see some whistleblower on Hardball, talking gravely about corruption in the Obama Administration, and she'll be feted by the gasbags and made into a media darling. And nobody will notice the fact that she was hired by Monica Goodling.
In the thread please suggest other whistleblowers like Bunny who should be publicly applauded. And if you think Bunny Greenhouse should be reinstated and promoted, please go to change.gov and make the suggestion.
Thanks, everyone!
