We've been entrusted with distributing the possessions of an elderly aunt. She recently relocated to an assisted living situation after she fell and broke her hip. She lived alone at the time so it was a couple of days before a neighbor found her.
She is better now, and adjusting slowly to her new circumstances. Closing up a house while strangers box up your possessions is a sad day. Sending your cats to relocate with strangers is a sad day. Life is full of such transitions.
Today we began going through the boxes shipped to us. In an old suitcase I found newspapers from November .... 1963. I instantly recognized the familiar photos and remembered the events. Jackie with the kids. John John saluting. The riderless horse with the boots reversed in the stirrups.
So much frail yellowed paper. So long ago, but so present. Funny how something so fragile can generate such strong feelings. I guess the important things are like that.
