You sure do hear a lot of talk about Bobby Jindal. And of course he has already started the obligatory pilgrimages to Iowa. So we can be pretty sure that in 2012 or 2016 he will be a primary contender. That is great. I love democracy and will even go so far as to say that he is a decent and qualified candidate (whom I would never vote for). But, when he runs I know that you won't see one thing.
Bobby Jindal was raised by devout Hindu parents. See this link for how they took his conversion.

He was, in fact, a Hindu. He converted to Christianity as a young man. But when he runs I don't think he will be painted as other, foreign or faking faith to win. Because the Democratic party doesn't use religious denomination as a litmus test.
What gets me in the craw is that the Republican "base" of evangelical right wingers will just turn right around and act as if his conversion is some absolute proof of his values and his fitness to serve. They will forget that this cycle, being of another culture and faith in childhood makes you a scary dangerous and potentially violent sleeper mole out to destroy the nation. And certainly the Hindu faith has its share (as do most all faiths) of violence and extremism in its history. But, our party won't play tit for tat and use the same tactics that were used on Barack Obama. I would just like to say here that the bible is pretty clear about how God feels about hypocrisy and I feel confident that I will be seeing far less of the Republican base after the rapture than they think.
