... a job in his administration?
The Anchorage Daily News Political Blog announced Tuesday that Alaska's Gov. Sarah Palin will, hopefully, meet with President-elect Barack Obama, when he attends the National Governor's Association conference there. Tuesday evening, Rachel Weiner at the Huffington Post covered the possible meetup in greater detail, with commenters speculating that Obama can prop up Palin's 2012 candidacy by meeting with her one-on-one. I'm sure he'd love to run against such a doomed opponent.
But, should they meet, could it be for the purpose of asking her to join his government?
Palin's chief press flack, Bill McAllister, was quoted by the ADN Tuesday on this, and on Palin's four-stop day-before-the-election set of rallies this coming Monday in Georgia, for Saxby Chambliss, saying the following:
"I don't know if she has a one-on-one with (Obama)," said Palin spokesman Bill McAllister. "It may be, given that they were both involved in the national campaign." McAllister said Palin will be in Philadelphia on Monday and Tuesday, and the state will pay for it. He said the Chambliss campaign will pay for Palin's side trip to Georgia.
Palin will join Chambliss for rallies Monday in Augusta, Savannah, Perry and Atlanta. Chambliss is in a close runoff election with Democrat Jim Martin.
What's the benefit to Alaska for Palin to campaign for Chambliss?
"Well, I don't know. It's a political event so I'm reluctant to comment much on it. But she works pretty hard, so you could consider it a day off," McAllister said. "I don't know that it necessarily has to have a direct benefit for Alaska, although probably you could make some argument there's an indirect one."
I think our soon-to-be president should offer Sarah Palin a place in his "Team of Rivals."
Would appointing her to a choice post be one of the most awesome moves of moving on beyond the rough-and-tumble of the campaign trail, the bruises of unjust accusations, the harshness of the most racist presidential campaign, since George Wallace's 1972 presidential primary drive?
Or could it be just retribution? Obama might change his 'pallin' around with Palin' moment into something ingenious.
What do you think?
Put her in charge of dismantling Bush's abstinence only sex education program?
Ask her if she wants to go around inspecting the quality of forensic examination investigative programs for sexual assault victims, assuring that each rape kit contains the proper dose of morning after pills?
Making sure the scientific sections of our Federal libraries, particularly, the sections having to do with evolution, or gay rights, haven't had their titles' copies stolen from the shelves by rabid Fungelicals?
Maybe something at the Department of Agriculture, inspecting you-know-what kind of farms?
Nah, none of those are important enough for this woman of destiny! How about Ambassador to Russia?
your turn.....
Oh, yeah, doncha love how she's gotten the people of Alaska to foot the bill for most of the expenses on what will undoubtedly be another divisive campaign appearance, on the last day of a very close US Senate race, with the entire politically-fixated audience of America watching her?
Another "Oh, yeah." Sarah Palin has not set foot in the capitol city of Alaska - Juneau - since mid-July.
OK - what's Palin's ideal cabinet post?
