Being a conservative does not make someone a Democrat or a Republican. It has always just ment that a certain individual has a few different views (not many) then those around us. You can never truly know what someone believes in until you actually talk to him or her and ask. Please stop thinking that Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are the voices of us. They have their own ideas about what it means to be an American or what we are supposed to feel, or do, or vote. I do not share all of these beliefs but yet I am sure some of you will see where I come from on these next few topics.
Let me start off by saying that I am tired of Rush and Hannity referring to my next President as "The Messiah" or "The Anointed One". This is a complete disrespect to my faith and all other faiths. First off President Obama was elected by the people, for the people; he didn't get a card from the Make a Wish Foundation granting him Executive powers. No matter what happens in the coming years this is who America has chosen to fix the problems of today. As a person who scores a +0.50, +0.36 on the political compass I feel that I/we made a very good choice going into 2009 with the future of the entire World Economy at stake.
The "What Went Wrong" Paragraph:
The founders of our nation decided that the government should be divided into three separate entities. The Judicial, Legislative, and Executive branches were designed to provide checks and balances to ensure neither is overreaching their prospective powers. In an ideal situation the Legislative branch makes laws, Executive enforces, and Judicial oversees the laws to ensure that they are lawful. When one party has control over two of the three branches political policy takes precedence over nationality. I am a strong supporter of the balance of power and believe the only way government works properly is when both parties have some control basically ensuring almost all people are heard. For six of the last eight years the republicans had complete control over the legislative and executive forms of government (the judicial side is an entire different topic for me). Remember when President Clinton was in the White House? To me what made that so great was the fact that he had to regularly square off against the Republican Congress. Neither one of the parties was able to completely press an agenda one way or the other. Aside from the Cole bombing (in which I lost fellow sailors) and the first WTC bombing we (Americans) were pretty much safe from harm. Now I also feel that not originally pursing these terrorists is what lead us into 9/11 but I digress. America has again made the mistake of having a one party government and I only hope that this can be corrected before too much reverse damage can be done (like maybe 2010?).
The Outcome Paragraph:
The republicans deserve what has happened to them by not sticking to the core base that got them elected in the first place. (The following is my opinion and my opinion only): First off conservatives are supposed to be just that; conservative. We keep to ourselves, enjoy our families, pay our dues and as long as there is food on the table, a roof over the head, and are safe from bodily harm we will generally leave well enough alone. Kind of let everything else work itself out by people that get paid to do so. We don't want war but see it as a necessity to protect American interests (Iraq is/was not a necessity!). We don't think government should get too big or spend too much money (yeah; they totally failed on that one).
There are plenty of other topics that people will differ on and if you want to ask me how I feel about a certain issue just comment and I will do a small blog on said topic and we can discuss.
Discussion leads to understanding; Understanding leads to compromise; Compromise leads to happiness; Happiness leads to Peace!
